About us
We have been given to understand that some Fijians migrated to Canada even before the 1950s. But the influx was during the 1987 Military Coup when most of them moved to Vancouver and the neighboring cities. Presently according to the Government of Canada, there are about 127,000 members of the Fijian diaspora in Canada of whom around 70,000 are in the Province of British Columbia. The rest have settled in the Provinces of Ontario and Alberta. New Brunswick, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Surprisingly some have also been traced in the Provinces of Nova Scotia and Quebec. We are proud to be associated with the Fijian diaspora in Canada which has hardworking, committed, dedicated, and law-abiding citizens. They have well settled and well integrated into the mainstream Canadian society. They have been playing a vital significant role politically, socially, and culturally to make a positive difference in the communities that they reside in. Some have served with dignity Provincial Parliament, City Councils, and School Boards and some have contested for a seat in the Canadian Parliament. During the celebration of the 50th Independence Anniversary of Fiji, a 10-acre Park was dedicated to the Fijian Community in the city of Brampton in Canada — known as FIJI PARK. The first and the only Fiji Park outside Fiji. In 2022 Fiji Community was permitted with honour to raise the Fiji flag at the Provincial Parliament building in Canada to celebrate Fiji Day. A history in itself . And in 2023 to celebrate Fiji Day our Fiji flag was hoisted with the Canadian flag at the Canadian Parliament Building. This was the first time a Fiji flag was raised at a Parliament Building for a foreign country. This was made possible with the help and blessings of The Prime Minister and the Official Leader of the Opposition of Canada. We are still a long way to go. Together as ONE Community — ONE POSITIVE VISION we will. God bless Fiji and the Fijian Diaspora in Canada. Rerevaka na kalou ka doka na tui .
